Designed by Sparkman & Stephens, the Northern 29 has traditional lines typical of boats designed and built in the late 60s and early 70s. She is a very solid sailboat, has a relatively narrow beam with pointed bow and narrow aft sections giving her sea kindly sailing characteristics. These boats have a deserved reputation for build quality and being excellent sailboats.
She has a V-shaped underbody, skeg mounted rudder and a very good ballast to displacement ratio. She was designed as a half-ton cup racer/cruiser and has a cockpit that is long but not wide and this relates to the IOR rule she was built to. Her underwater profile and rugged rig make her a supremely comfortable boat in any weather condition. She has a very pleasant motion and is not tiring to sail.
Her v-berth is very large with more than enough room for two real sized people; she has a comfortable settee berth in the salon and a dinette that drops down to make up a reasonable sized double berth.
This particular vessel is in good condition, has good sails with a flexible furling system. She is clean and ready to provide many more years of trouble free sailing. The current owners have taken very good care of her since 1985, and are ready to provide an excellent opportunity to a new owner for more years of true sailing pleasure
